Francisco de Sousa da Câmara
FRANCISCO DE SOUSA DA CÂMARA

Francisco de Sousa da Câmara has worked with large national and multinational companies on tax restructuring transactions related to different types of taxes and issues involving the application of Double Taxation Treaties and EU Tax Law. His activities have also included being actively involved in "transfer pricing" (both at the stage of drafting contracts and the disputes stage), financial products and derivatives, securitization and structuring operations through the RCN of Madeira.

In addition, he has specialised in the area of Tax Litigation, leading a team of lawyers responsible for more than two hundred judicial and administrative cases, dealing with a wide range of tax issues.

CURRICULUM

Qualifications: Degree in Law (1986), Postgraduate Courses in European Studies (1987), Masters in Legal and Economic Sciences (1992), at the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Portugal; Specialist Layer in Tax Law (2004).

Professional Experience: Francisco de Sousa da Câmara has worked with the law firm Morais Leitao, Galvao Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados since 1986, and has been a Partner since 1991. He currently coordinates the Tax Law I Professional Group. He has worked with large national and multinational companies in tax restructuring transactions related to different types of taxes and issues involving the application of Double Taxation Treaties and EU Tax Law. His activities have also included being actively involved in "transfer pricing" (both at the stage of drafting contracts and the disputes stage), financial products and derivatives, securitization and international structuring operations through the RCN of Madeira.
In addition, he has specialised in the area of Tax Litigation, leading a team of lawyers responsible for more than two hundred judicial and administrative cases, dealing with a wide range of tax issues. He has been a member of various Committees responsible for drafting tax legislation. He is currently a Visiting Professor of International Tax Law at the New University of Lisbon.

Professional associations: Portuguese Bar Association (admitted in 1988), Portuguese Association of Tax Consultants (President), Portuguese Tax Association, International Fiscal Association, Confederation Fiscale Européenne.

PUBLICATIONS

Author of various articles devoted to tax matters. Correspondent of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, of Tax Analysts and the EU Tax Journal.
