JOSÉ MANUEL RIBEIRO SÉRVULO CORREIA
Senior Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. Senior partner at "Sérvulo” since 2008. Member of the European Public Law Group since 1989. Member of the Academic Committee of the Summer School of the Federalism Institute of the University of Friburg (Switzerland). Lawyer for the Portuguese State in the proposed action against Australia in the International Court of Justice (Case of East Timor). Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (The Hague). Member of the Board of the Centre for Arbitration of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2005. Member of the Executive Board of the Portuguese Bar Association between 2005 and 2007.

CURRICULUM

He was born on 30 December 1937 in Angra do Heroísmo. He obtained his Law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 1959. He has been a Lawyer since 1962. Main partner at “Sérvulo” since 2008. Senior Professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.

Supplementary Studies in Political and Economic Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 1968. PhD in Law at the University of Lisbon in 1987. Agrégation in Law awarded by the University of Lisbon in 2006.

He has formed part of numerous viva juries, often as the main protagonist, for PhD and Master’s defences, at the Universities of Lisbon, Coimbra, Catholic University of Portugal, Geneva and Bordeaux. Invited professor at the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas), 1994, and the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne), 1996. Member of the European Public Law Group since 1989. Member of the Academic Committee of the Summer School of the Federalism Institute of the University of Friburg (Switzerland).

Lawyer for the Portuguese State in the proposed action against Australia in the International Court of Justice (Case of East Timor). Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (The Hague). Founding Partner of the Law Firm “Sérvulo Correia & Associados”. He has acted in cases of arbitration as an assistant arbitrator or the presiding arbitrator and also as a lawyer.
